Chelsea preparing proposal to sign £50m Spurs star to replace Enzo Fernandez

Chelsea are now preparing a transfer proposal for Lucas Bergvall, with the midfielder’s future at Tottenham Hotspur in doubt.

The Blues may be forced to bring in a new midfielder in the summer, given that Enzo Fernandez may now be prepared to leave at the end of the season, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

“The message I’m receiving on this Enzo Fernandez story is that Enzo Fernandez and Chelsea had some conversations about the contract to discuss potential new terms for Enzo Fernandez. At the moment, they could not reach an agreement on a new contract.

“If the situation remains like this, with no agreement from now until the summer transfer window, Fernandez could eventually consider proposals in the summer.”

It is perhaps no surprise the Argentinian may not want to remain at Stamford Bridge, given Liam Rosenior’s side’s major drop-off in form in recent weeks, losing their last four Premier League games on the bounce.

The west Londoners are at serious risk of missing out on the Champions League, but their campaign has been nowhere near as disastrous as London rivals Tottenham.

Spurs are two points from safety in the Premier League, with just five games remaining, and should they suffer relegation to the Championship, Roberto De Zerbi may be forced to cash-in on some important players.

That is according to a report from TEAMtalk, which states the Lilywhites could be forced to listen to ‘creative’ offers for Bergvallshould they finish inside the bottom three, and Chelsea are now preparing a proposal for the midfielder.

Indeed, a bid is in the works, with the Blues looking to tempt their rivals into a sale, but there could be competition for his signature, with Aston Villa and Arsenal also named as potential suitors.

However, Chelsea are leading the Gunners in the race for the Danish maestro, as the intense rivalry could be a stumbling block for Mikel Arteta’s side.

What Pep Guardiola has said about Lucas Bergvall

It has been far from the ideal campaign for Tottenham, but Bergvall received major plaudits from Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola last season, who said: “Bergvall, every time he has the ball and runs, he’s unstoppable. Spence, Pedro Porro, Udogie, Kulusevski, Son. It’s an incredible physical team with a clear idea to play, and they play really good.”

A deal for the 20-year-old would be expensive, with a £50m price tag being touted, and Spurs are desperate to keep hold of the youngster, who has two goals and nine assists to his name in 75 appearances for the north London club.

However, David Ornstein expects two signings in other positions, with BlueCo expected to stand by Rosenior and back him this summer.
