Man Utd “for sure” interested in Newcastle star with huge price tag revealed

Manchester United have confirmed a new contract for Kobbie Mainoo until 2031, but the Red Devils are still set to spend heavily in midfeld in the summer transfer window.

United’s contract extension for Mainoo comes amid calls to bring back Casemiro, who is set to leave the club despite an incredible run of goalscoring form.

The popular 21-year-old academy product has made 98 appearances for his boyhood club and scored seven goals, including in the 2024 FA Cup final win over rivals Manchester City.

Just a matter of months ago it looked like Mainoo’s future might lie away from Old Trafford, having fallen out of favour under former boss Ruben Amorim and seen an August request to leave on loan rejected.

A temporary January move looked possible until Michael Carrick’s appointment as head coach, with the midfielder restored the starting line-up and playing a key role in the side’s rise up to third in the Premier League.

Mainoo’s deal had been due to expire next summer. The midfielder’s performances have also led to an England recall, with the Euro 2024 final starter pushing for a place in Thomas Tuchel’s World Cup squad.

The next task is strengthening the ranks in the summer transfer window, with United planning to sign two new midfielders to play alongside their starboy.

Manchester United have now turned their attention towards signing another attacking upgrade ahead of their Champions League return.

Manchester United interested in Newcastle star

According to Fabrizio Romano, speaking on his personal YouTube channel, United are “for sure” interested in signing Newcastle star Sandro Tonali this summer.

Italy's Sandro Tonali applauds fans after the match

The Red Devils have been strongly linked with both Tonali and his teammate Bruno Guimaraes, who hailed the Italian as “unbelievable”.

“He went through a difficult moment in his career but he’s always been positive. He’s an unbelievable player and a really amazing guy.”

Tonali, for his part, would like to move within the Premier League if he leaves Tyneside, which is a boost for both Manchester clubs and a blow for Serie A suitors, confirms Romano.

Romano also revealed a monster price tag for the 25 year-old, with the Magpies set to demand up to €110m (£95m) if he is to leave this year.

The Italy international has two years left to run on his contract, which puts Newcastle in a strong negotiating position for now.

Tonali is represented by GR Sports, who manager several of Italy’s top stars, and currently makes £120,000-a-week at St James’ Park.

United are also set to battle Man City for Bournemouth forward Eli Junior Kroupi.
