Arsenal’s stance on Myles Lewis-Skelly transfer revealed after Man Utd talks

Manchester United have held talks to sign Myles Lewis-Skelly, and Arsenal’s stance on sanctioning a transfer has now been revealed.

Lewis-Skelly earns rave reviews from Arteta after Fulham display

Although Lewis-Skelly is a left-back by trade, he was given the nod in central midfield in Arsenal’s recent 3-0 victory against Fulham, and he earned plaudits from Mikel Arteta, who described his performance as “incredible” and admitted he should’ve played him in that position sooner.

The 19-year-old has struggled to force his way into Arteta’s plans at left-back, appearing for a total of just 501 minutes in the Premier League this season, whereas Gary Neville believes Man United are lacking in that area of the pitch, and should enter the market for a Shaw heir.

The Sky Sports pundit said: “I think Manchester United need a left-back for next season because Luke Shaw has played every game this season, and I think he may struggle.”

Luke Shaw’s key Premier League statistics

  • 2,969 minutes played

  • 0 goals

  • 1 assist

  • 160 duels won

  • 71 tackles

  • 42 interceptions

  • 87 clearances

According to a report from TEAMtalk, Man United regard Lewis-Skelly as a successor to Shawwith the former Southampton man now 30-years-old, and talks have been held with intermediaries regarding a move to Old Trafford.

Within the Premier League, Everton, West Ham United and Crystal Palace are also keen on signing the full-back, while Real Madrid headline the interest from abroad, but it could be difficult to get a deal over the line.

That is because Arsenal have no intention of selling the Englishman in the summer transfer window, and the £45k-a-week defender remains under contract at the Emirates Stadium until 2030.

Amad Diallo speaks out on Michael Carrick’s future

Michael Carrick is the obvious choice for the permanent manager’s job, given the job he’s done as interim boss, guiding the Red Devils to Champions League qualification.

Other options remain under consideration, including Xavi, who would love to make the move to Old Trafford, and talks were recently held with the former Barcelona manager.

However, according to Amad Diallo, the entire squad wants Carrick to stay on as manager.

“Honestly, it’s not the player who decides who is going to stay here next season, but what I can say (is) everyone is happy to have him as manager,” the United winger told Sky Sports. “Everyone is with him.

“He’s that manager who has a good relationship with every player, so we are really happy to have him as manager and, yeah, we will be happy if we have him next season as manager.”
