Arsenal hold talks to sign Trossard upgrade who’s “one of the best in the world”

Arsenal may well have only scored two goals across their last two games but it feels like the momentum has changed at the Emirates Stadium.

Before their 3-0 win over Fulham, you could cut the tension with a knife. They had beaten Newcastle by the skin of their teeth but what Mikel Arteta and the supporters were craving was a statement performance.

They got just that against the Cottagers nine days ago, a win that subsequently propelled them to even greater heights in midweek, defeating Atletico Madrid to reach a first Champions League final since 2006.

While their 1-0 win over West Ham was a little more gritty, the forward line have improved significantly over the last week or so. Viktor Gyokeres, Leandro Trossard and Bukayo Saka have all been among the goals.

Arsenal could sign big-money Trossard upgrade

Trossard may well have scored his first goal of 2026 against the Hammers on Sunday, but that should not distract the hierarchy from going out in the transfer market and securing an elite replacement this summer.

The most exciting link has undoubtedly been to PSG superstar Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. Yet, he is the star man at the Paris club right now and extracting him from the French capital feels pretty impossible.

Real Madrid’s Rodrygo likely would have been an option but for an ACL injury. The Gunners have been monitoring him for a good while now.

AC Milan’s Rafael Leao is another player Arsenal have interest in and he could be snapped away from the San Siro for a cut-price of £60m.

Speaking of cut-price, Bradley Barcola is the headline name of this piece. Reports have emerged in recent weeks detailing Arsenal’s fondness for another of PSG’s attackers.

However, their interest in the Frenchman feels slightly more concrete than it does in Kvaratskhelia.

Indeed, according to TEAMtalka whole host of clubs in English football are interested in bringing Barcola across the Channel to English shores.

Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester City and Manchester United are said to be monitoring his future with all of those clubs having held initial talks with the player’s camp about his availability.

The winger’s agent is currently exploring options for Barcola this summer with his contract situation at PSG reaching a standstill. Because of that, he could be available for around £62m.

How Barcola compares to Trossard

It’s been phenomenal to see the diminutive figure of Trossard back at his best over the last week.

It’s been a slog of a season and a slog of a year for the Belgian, who, coming into the game with West Ham on Sunday, had not scored in 2026. In fact, he had not found the net in any of his last 25 matches.

It was a wretched run of form but in the last two league fixtures, in particular, he has been really motoring. Against Fulham, the winger completed a career high six dribbles in one game while also supplying the assist for Gyokeres’ second.

He was even better versus West Ham on Sunday, not just coming up with the clutch goal that kept Arsenal in pole position to win the title but also demonstrating an immense work rate throughout.

Arteta-Arsenal-Trossard

Lasting the full 90 minutes, his goal stood out but a fabulous recovery challenge in the first half also caught the eye. Trossard somehow found himself filling in at centre-back after West Ham transitioned forward, and after the ball was played in behind on the right channel, the 31-year-old came across to sniff out the danger.

Replacing someone like Trossard from a work-rate and availability point of view will be tricky. The Belgium international always seems to be ready to play.

Yet, the fact of the matter is that Arsenal need far greater quality on the left flank, quality akin to Saka on the right. Barcola could definitely provide that.

While Trossard has enjoyed a 17-goal season in the famous red and white back in 2023/24, those days are long behind him now. He has just eight goals this season, with six coming in the league.

By way of comparison, Barcola has scored 12 in all competitions. Analysing the numbers deeper, it’s a resounding win for PSG’s 23-year-old sensation.

One look at the figures and it’s clear to see why Como scout Ben Mattinson has described him as “one of the best wingers in the world.”

While he may not be having the 21-goal and 21-assist season he had last term, Barcola has still been mightily impressive. Compared to Trossard, he’s a much greater goal threat and a more efficient shooter at goal.

PSG winger Bradley Barcola

The PSG superstar may not win as many fouls per 90 minutes but he is producing far more take-ons. Arsenal have missed a threat like that on the left-hand side for much of this season. The direct and tricky Barcola could help fix that problem.

If the fee really is around the £62m mark, then Andrea Berta and Co should be all over this one.
