Richard Hughes jets in for talks as Liverpool star informs club about exit decision
Richard Hughes is likely to be a busy man this summer and the first task on his to-do list looks set to surround the future of a want-away Liverpool star.
Liverpool chief working to solve Liverpool star’s future
Even Mohamed Salah’s Anfield farewell was filled with unanswered questions. There was no speech and there was no final goodbye to Arne Slot. Instead, the Dutchman watched on from the bench as the departing star, and the rest of the squad, took their lap of honour to close out the campaign. It’s the most that any divide has been on show.
Nonetheless, it’s Slot that Anfield chiefs are set to back. The Premier League winner still has credit in the bank as far as they are concerned and will be backed in the form of reinforcements this summer.
Whilst the dressing room continues to look so split on his tenure, however, there’s every chance that the Reds will be showing the door to some talented players.
According to Italian journalist Gianluca di Marzio, Hughes has flown in to sort the future of Curtis Joneswho has told Inter Milan that he wants to complete a move to San Siro this summer.
Hughes has reportedly met with the club’s sporting director, Piero Ausilio, in Monte Carlo in an attempt to discuss a deal for Jones in the coming months.
Of course, this isn’t the first time that Inter have come calling for the midfielder, either. Back in January, Liverpool were forced to close the door on Jones, blocking his move to the Italian giants. Now, with his contract set to expire in a year, they may have no choice but to cash in.
Liverpool should do everything to keep Jones
At a time when standards are being questioned, keeping hold of an academy graduate should be a priority for Liverpool – especially someone of Jones’ profile.
The Reds’ midfield options have endured a nightmare campaign, but Jones doesn’t carry the majority of the blame for that. In fact, as an elite ball progressor, he is exactly what Liverpool need and they’re well aware of that. It’s why they’ve been linked with a big-money move for Adam Wharton, who shares that same profile.
Unless Jones pushes for a move, Anfield chiefs should save their money and ensure that their academy graduate is handed a starting place next season.

The last thing Liverpool need right now is for a midfielder to leave and prove them wrong. It would welcome questions that Slot will be keen to avoid and only leave them spending more money this summer.
