Man Utd eye Marc Cucurella after Spain star issues Chelsea transfer demand
Manchester United are now eyeing a move for an “unbelievable” player, who has informed Chelsea he wants to leave this summer.
Man Utd looking to build on successful 2025 summer transfer window
Although Man United endured a rocky start to last season under the helm of Ruben Amorim, a strong second half of the campaign with Michael Carrick secured a third-placed finish in the Premier League, which means they are set to return to the Champions League.
As such, the Red Devils’ 2025 summer transfer window has to be viewed as a success, and chief executive Omar Berrada has outlined plans to adopt the same strategy this time around.
Berrada said: “The template for what we did last summer will be replicated. You never know how you will come out of a window. You have to be really prepared, you have to have a clear plan, you have to know what positions you want to strengthen and you also have to be prepared for any eventuality.
“There could be exits you weren’t expecting or opportunities that weren’t there at the beginning of the window. We have to be agile and flexible. We have a clear plan. [Director of football] Jason Wilcox and his team are well set up to execute that plan.”
The Red Devils have moved swiftly to sign Ederson, with the Atalanta midfielder now expected to complete a move to Old Trafford, but they remain keen on bringing in reinforcements in defence.
Man Utd plotting raid on Chelsea for “unbelievable” player
According to a report from Mundo Deportivo (via Sport Witness), Man United have now stormed into the race to sign Chelsea defender Marc Cucurellawith the Blues prepared to cash-in for around €40m – €50m (£35m – £43m) this summer.
Cucurella has informed his current employers he wants to leave, after his side missed out on European qualification last season, and he is keen to secure a move to FC Barcelona.
Manchester City, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid are also in the race to sign the full-back, who has been lauded as an “unbelievable player” by journalist Will Reyner.
Despite predominantly featuring at left-back throughout the 2025-26 campaign, the 27-year-old managed to chip in with one goal and four assists in 34 Premier League matches, and created 39 chances, which is more than the vast majority of the United squad.

Former manager Enzo Maresca also lauded the Spaniard for his defensive attributes, saying: “He’s doing fantastic,” Maresca said of Cucurella. “He scores goals, but not only goals. He’s helping the team to play the way we want to play. When we need to defend, he’s very aggressive off the ball.”
Gary Neville has urged Man United to sign a left-back this summer, ahead of the return to the Champions League, and Cucurella could be a fantastic signing.
