Matias Soule makes Aston Villa transfer stance crystal clear to friends at Roma
Aston Villa’s summer transfer plans continue as Unai Emery looks to strengthen a squad capable of competing in both the Premier League and Europe once again.
One area Villa are actively looking to improve is midfield.
Recent reports have linked the club with North Macedonia legend Eljif Elmas, with Emery believed to be keen on adding more technical quality and versatility in the centre of the pitch.
Elmas has built a reputation as a creative and intelligent operator capable of playing in several positions, making him the sort of profile that would fit naturally into Emery’s tactical system.

Villa are also continuing to monitor developments surrounding goalkeeper Man City keeper James Trafford, despite competition from Newcastle.
The England international has attracted interest from the Magpies and several Premier League clubs and remains one of the most highly-rated young goalkeepers in the country, despite playing a bit-part role at Eastlands last season.
Premier League star enticed by Aston Villa move, he’s a ‘strong candidate’ to join Emery
He once nearly joined Newcastle.
With uncertainty continuing around Emiliano Martinez’s long-term future, Villa have understandably explored possible alternatives should they need to enter the market for a new number one.
Trafford’s age, experience and potential make him an obvious candidate.
However, the goalkeeper is far from the only exciting name being linked with a move to Villa Park.
Roma attacker Matias Soule has emerged as a major talking point for Emery’s side in recent weeks.
Matias Soule makes Aston Villa transfer stance clear to friends at Roma
According to reports emerging from Italy, the Argentine has informed people close to him at Roma’s Trigoria training base that he would like to test himself in the Premier League.
More significantly for Villa supporters, the report from La Gazzetta dello Sport suggests Villa would be Soule’s preferred destination if a move to England becomes possible.
That will undoubtedly catch the attention of Emery and Villa’s recruitment staff.
The left-footed forward is capable of operating from either flank, as a number ten or in a more advanced attacking role.
At just 23 years old, he still has enormous room for development, and bagged 11 goal contributions in 33 Serie A appearances for Roma last campaign.
A move to Villa Park would offer Soule the opportunity to work under one of Europe’s most respected coaches while also testing himself in the world’s most competitive league.
The report also claims Soule’s agent has recently held discussions at Roma’s training ground regarding the player’s future.
The Italian side are under pressure to raise money through player sales by the end of this month to comply with FFP rules, which could play into Emery’s hands as well.
That does not necessarily mean a transfer is imminent.
However, it does suggest preparations are being made should serious interest arrive during the remainder of the window.
Whether Villa decide to make a formal move remains to be seen, but if the player genuinely sees Villa as his preferred Premier League destination, that could provide Emery’s side with a significant advantage.
