Rangers now on verge of another signing as player green lights £900k deal

While the rest of Scotland were stuck watching a Brazilian samba show courtesy of Vinícius Júnior on Wednesday night, Rangers have been busy in the transfer market.

The Gers mean business this summer and already showed plenty of intent when they signed Hearts captain Lawrence Shankland before then welcoming manager Derek McInnes.

The former Hearts boss has now officially arrived at Ibrox and addressed fans for the first timesharing that it was an “emotional day” earlier this week.

“It’s everything really. It’s such a privilege and an emotional day. It’s a special day for myself on a personal level. The club is something that has always been huge in my life growing up.

“My father supported the team. 31 years ago, when I signed here as a player, my dad was in the gaffer’s room next door. To think that I’m in that seat is pretty special. I feel ready for it, I feel comfortable with all, but it’s still a very special day, and it’s an absolute privilege to be the manager of Rangers.”

McInnes will be well aware of the pressure that he’s under to make a positive start, but the arrival of Shankland will help, as will the likely arrival of another former player.

Rangers on the verge of second signing of the summer

The theme of the summer seems to be Scottish Premiership experience in Glasgow.

According to Rangers Review, Rangers are now on the verge of signing Ross McCrorie after agreeing personal terms with the Scottish right-back.

The Gers are set to pay Bristol City a £900,000 fee, which could rise to six figures with add-ons, whilst the defender himself has green-lit a three-year contract.

It’s another impressive signing from those at Ibrox and one that McInnes will certainly be happy with, having told reporters when McCrorie was on loan at his Aberdeen side during an initial Rangers spell: “Ross McCrorie is an absolute dream of a boy, he’s a Rolls-Royce.

“He didn’t want to be in the shadows, he didn’t just want to be a Rangers squad player, he wanted to get out and get on with his career, and I love that about him.”

It’s a full-circle moment for the right-back, who will be replacing the iconic James Tavernier to tick off another priority task for those at Ibrox this summer.

Why McCrorie is the perfect Tavernier replacement

Replacing Tavernier is Rangers’ very own Mission Impossible this summer, and their casting for Tom Cruise has seen them turn towards Bristol City’s McCrorie. The 28-year-old looks set to be the next man through the door and it’s fair to say that he ticks all the boxes.

A lot of the Gers’ recruitment has been far too centred around EFL talent in the last 12 months, but McCrorie isn’t just any Championship star. He’s already experienced life at Rangers, life under McInnes and plenty of life in the Scottish Premiership. Now, at the peak of his powers, he’s set to make his return at the perfect moment.
