Celtic in serious contention to sign £5m star who’s a dream Hogh alternative
Celtic manager Martin O’Neill is looking to finally add a winger to his squad in the final days of the January transfer window, as the club eye a move for Fares Ghedjemis. It has been reported that a deal for the Frosinone winger is still on the cards for the Scottish Premiership side before the deadline, with the Serie B side holding out for a fee of £6m at this moment in time.
Ghedjemis has scored eight goals and provided two assists in 21 appearances in the Serie B so far this season from the right wing, and could provide the Hoops with an added threat out wide in the second half of this season.A winger may not be the only position that is strengthened before the end of the window, though, as Celtic have also been linked with an interest in Bodo/Glimt centre-forward Kasper Hogh.
The Danish number nine has scored three goals in his last two matches, against Manchester City and Atletico Madrid, in the Champions League, and the Hoops are one of the teams in the race to secure his services.
Celtic identify Kasper Hogh alternative
A fresh update from SportsBoom claims that EFL Championship side Norwich City are currently leading the race to sign the Bodo/Glimt attacker before the deadline.
The Canaries are said to have submitted a £7m offer in an attempt to land the Eliteserien star, as they prepare for life without Josh Sargent, and that means that the Hoops have had to draw up contingency plans.
With Hogh possibly on his way to East Anglia, making the same move that former Bhoys target Mathias Kvistgaarden made last summer, the Scottish giants are looking closer to home for a new striker.
According to SportsBoomCeltic have identified Motherwell centre-forward Tawanda Maswanhise as a target to pursue if Hogh completes a move to Norwich in the coming days.
The report claims that the Zimbabwe international is in ‘serious contention’ to sign for the Hoops if they decide to make a move for him as an alternative to the Danish frontman.
It adds that both Celtic and Rangers are monitoring the 23-year-old attacker, who can play out wide or through the middle, ahead of a potential late window swoop.
SportsBoom also reveals that, whilst Motherwell do not want to lose their star forward midway through the season, a fee of around £5m could be enough to tempt them into parting ways with him.
Why Celtic should sign Tawanda Maswanhise
The Hoops should forget about a deal to sign Hogh ahead of Norwich because this report suggests that they could land Maswanhise for £2m less than the £7m that the Canaries have offered for the Danish striker.
Maswanhise would be a dream alternative to the Bodo/Glimt star because of his form this season and the fact that he is a proven Premiership performer who could step in and hit the ground running, without any need to adapt to the country and league.
Whilst Hogh is an exciting prospect on paper, given his 17 Eliteserien goals in 2025 and his recent Champions League exploits, he has never played in Scotland before and may need time to adapt to the Premiership, if he even can.
Maswanhise, however, is the joint-top scorer in the Premiership in the 2025/26 campaign with 11 goals in 20 appearances for Motherwell, and he has scored 16 goals in all competitions.
The 23-year-old star, who was an “absolute live wire” by analyst Kai Watson, has proven that he can find the back of the net on a regular basis in the Scottish top-flight, scoring every 143 minutes on average.
As you can see in the table above, he has scored four more goals than Daizen Maeda and as many as central midfielder Benjamin Nygren, which suggests that he could be one of the biggest goal threats in O’Neill’s squad.
This means that he would bring a level of proven quality in the league that Hogh would not, whilst also costing less, and that is why he would be the perfect alternative to the Danish attacker.
Therefore, if the board can agree a deal with Motherwell to sign Maswanhise for £5m, supporters should not have any concerns about Hogh signing for Norwich this week.
