Sunderland and Nottingham Forest learn Celtic star Engels’ next club preference
Sunderland and Nottingham Forest are now battling it out to sign a midfield star, who could even head for the exit door at a lower price than first thought.
It will be music to the ears of the Premier League duo, with Sunderland hoping to keep hold of their European status next season and Forest looking to regain theirs following a tough last campaign.
Leeds, Sunderland and Fulham battling to sign £17m South American “star”
The Premier League sides are keen on signing a defender.
The Black Cats are already putting their qualification to good use, too. They’ve reportedly set their sights on South American star Viery in what would be the perfect way to commence their summer business.
The Brazilian, who’s still just 21 years old, has a release clause worth €50m (£43m) and would become the most expensive player in Sunderland’s history if they triggered that clause.

The defender isn’t the only name on their radar, however. Those in Wearside are blessed with options ahead of next season and have now been gifted a major boost in the race to sign a midfield international ahead of Nottingham Forest.

Sunderland and Nottingham Forest target makes transfer decision
According to Tuttomercatoweb, as relayed by Sport Witness, Arne Engels now prefers a move to Sunderland instead of Nottingham Forest this summer thanks to their European qualification last season.
Regis Le Bris could also welcome the midfielder for cheaper than first thought. Whilst earlier reports suggested that Celtic are set to charge £25m to sell the Dane in the coming months, their asking price has now gone down to €25m (£22m) in another boost for those on Wearside.
It’s clear that Sunderland are keen on Engels, given that they’ve already approached his agents to discover his transfer preference ahead of next season. Whether that mutual interest turns into an offer remains to be seen, though.
After seven goals and eight assists on the way to Celtic’s Scottish Premiership victory last season, the Dane would certainly have a lot to offer in the Premier League.
