Aston Villa and Spurs on red alert as Como issue Martin Baturina sale stance
Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa have been handed a major boost in the race to sign Martin Baturina.
The Como star is fresh from an outstanding season in Italy and finds himself on the radar of the Premier League duo as a result.
Under Cesc Fabregas, the 23-year-old has reached a new level at Como, ending last season with eight goals and four assists in all competitions.
It’s sparked interest in his arrival once more, but there remains question marks over what he could offer Villa and Spurs respectively.

Like Villa, the impressive star is within Spurs’ financial range and words from Como’s president suggest that he’s available for the right price this summer. |
Although any deal is still in its early stages, Baturina is certainly one to watch. England fans should already be familiar with the name, too, after the Croatian got his name on the scoresheet with an excellent strike against the Three Lions at the World Cup.
If Aston Villa and Tottenham were looking for any sign of real quality on the biggest stage, then that strike against Thomas Tuchel’s side was certainly it.
Como president sends Baturina sale message
Speaking to Italian outlet CalcioMercato, Como president Mirwan Suwarso publicly green-lit the sale of star players on the condition that clubs meet his asking price.
Interest is already arriving from both Aston Villa and Tottenham, and the very public stance will be music to their ears.
“If there’s an offer, we’ll listen. If we like it, we’ll accept, but we’re not afraid to refuse. Last summer, we rejected a €60m offer for Assane Diao. I can’t say from whom. And in the winter, another €40m, for Jayden Addai.”
The ball is now in the court of interested clubs. Those in the Premier League know that Suwarso will sanction a sale for Baturina, but only at the right price.
That should be no problem for Aston Villa and Spurs, however. The Villans just received a record fee for Rogers and the Lilywhites have not been hesitant to spend all summer. That’s unlikely to change in the race to sign Baturina.
