Big-money Sunderland star rejects new contract and is now set to leave

Wilson Isidor is now “ready to quit” Sunderland this summer after losing his place to impressive signing Brian Brobbey in the club’s first season back in the Premier League.

Isidor “ready to quit” Sunderland

It’s set to be an interesting summer for Sunderland. For the first time under Regis Le Bris, they could face a battle to keep hold of some of their top stars after such an excellent season.

Reports have already emerged about Brobbey’s future at the club in recent months and he’s just one big name who has impressed enough to earn interest from clubs of Bayern Munich’s stature.

Sunderland need to fix their backline, with problems creeping in over the past several months.

But that’s not the only concern in Wearside. According to The Sun’s Charlie Gordon, Isidor is now “ready to quit” Sunderland after failing to regain his starting place in the Premier League this season.

The forward hasn’t started a league game in five months and is ready to take his leave as a result. Interest did arrive from several Premier League sides in January, including from Everton and Nottingham Forest, but those clubs were put off by Sunderland’s £25m price-tag.

Since then, despite his lack of playing time, Sunderland have attempted to negotiate a new deal with Isidor, only to have their efforts rebuffed by the Haiti international.

Whether those at the Stadium of Light stick by their asking price or allow their forward to leave at a cut-price this summer is now the big question. Even behind Brobbey in the pecking order, Isidor has shown his quality at times – scoring five league goals in his first season in the top flight.

Given that there’s also interest in Brobbey, Sunderland would be playing a risky game by sanctioning the sale of their backup striker this summer.

Sunderland must replace £25m Isidor

It shows how successful Sunderland’s recruitment has been that they’ve got Brobbey and Isidor in their ranks. But the latter’s unhappiness is set to provide some trouble in paradise this summer – trouble that the Black Cats must solve before the new campaign gets underway.

A departure for Isidor should suit all parties if that replacement arrives. This is a 25-year-old striker in the prime of his career, who has proved in small doses that he’s capable of finding the back of the net in the top flight. There’s good reason why a whole host of sides were interested in January.

Isidor’s effort from the bench against Aston Villa last month proved his value. When it’s not Brobbey, it should be Sunderland’s backup striker. Without that competition, the ruthless nature of the Premier League calendar will catch up to just about any side.

So, whilst the forward wants to quit this summer, those in Wearside must not open the door until they’ve found their replacement.
