Celtic advancing to sign “elite” £2m star who’s now very keen on Parkhead move

Celtic want to sign Hibernian’s Miguel Chaiwa in the summer transfer window, and they have been making progress in their pursuit of the midfielder.

Hoops stepping up midfielder pursuit ahead of title run-in

With just one game remaining before the split, the Hoops are well-placed to mount a late push for the Scottish Premiership title, having moved just three points adrift of league leaders Hearts following the 2-1 victory at Dundee FC at the weekend.

Having won the league at a canter so regularly in recent years, the Parkhead outfit are, for once, in for an enthralling end to the season, and it has now been revealed they are set to host Hearts on the final day, in what could be a title-deciding game.

Although Martin O’Neill’s side are still in a position to lift the title for a 56th time, they have fallen way short of their usual standards, and the fans made their feelings about the board very clear after the 2-0 defeat against Dundee United last month.

The hierarchy has faced criticism due to a perceived lack of investment, but they could be set to strengthen heavily during the summer transfer window, with a report from TEAMtalk revealing they have already identified seven targets.

Hibernian midfielder Chaiwa is among them, with Celtic recently making fresh contact about a deal for the 21-year-old, who is now very keen on a move to Parkhead, and a deal could be possible for just £1m – £2m.

The Hoops have been stepping up their pursuit of the youngster, off the back of some impressive performances in the Scottish Premiership this season, and writer Michael Shearer has singled him out for some high praise.

Shearer said: “Celtic target Miguel Chaiwa ranks among the top U23 midfielders in world football for high-speed defensive sprints. Elite pace, stamina and ball-winning, exactly what Celtic have been missing.”

Despite his age, the starlet has already represented Zambia on 16 occasions, and he has been a key player for Hibernian this season, averaging 1.5 interceptions per 90 in the Scottish Premiership, which is the highest number in the squad.

Celtic gearing up for St. Mirren clash

Having gotten back on track with the win at Dundee last time out, Celtic will be hoping to gain some momentum in the title race when they take on St. Mirren at Parkhead this Saturday.

Ahead of the important fixture, the board has lifted the Green Brigade’s suspension, and interim chairman Brian Wilson is hoping the decision will have a positive impact on the atmosphere, saying: “A full and united Celtic Park can get behind the team at this crucial point in the season.”
