Crystal Palace plotting move for Oosterwolde, £17m could tempt Fenerbahce
Crystal Palace are now plotting a summer move for a Marc Guehi replacement who has “electric pace”, and he could be available for a relatively low fee.
Signing Guehi replacement now priority for Palace this summer
Having failed to replace Guehi during the January transfer window, bringing in a new centre-back is regarded as a priority for Palace in the summer, despite having four senior centre-backs on the books, namely Maxence Lacroix, Chris Richards, Jaydee Canvot and Chadi Riad.
Earlier this season, Oliver Glasner warned the board that his side could struggle if they choose to cash-in on Guehi, and there have been some poor performances as of late, losing 3-2 at home against Burnley, before only being able to draw 1-1 away at Zrinjski Mostar.
Consequently, it is no surprise the Eagles are so keen to sign a new centre-back, during what will be an important summer, considering Steve Parish & co will also need to appoint a successor to Glasner.
According to a report from Aksam (via Sport Witness), Crystal Palace are now plotting a summer move for Fenerbahce defender Jayden Oosterwoldewho is also being targeted by Premier League rivals Newcastle United.
Palace have been interested in signing Oosterwolde for quite some time, lodging an enquiry during the 2024 summer transfer window, before he picked up a major knee injury, which quietened the speculation.
Interestingly, the Turkish club could be willing to cash-in for just €20m (£17m) this summer, potentially making the Dutch defender an affordable option for the Eagles.
Oosterwolde could be exciting Guehi replacement
Scout Ben Mattinson has lauded the 24-year-old for his speed, while also suggesting he has the potential to become a top centre-back in the future.
Injuries have hampered the Zwolle-born defender, who missed 42 matches due to injury last season, but he has been a key player for Fenerbahce this season, making 37 appearances in all competitions.
No Fenerbahce player has featured for more minutes than the centre-back in the Turkish Super Lig, which indicates he has put his injury problems behind him, and an average of 56.2 accurate passes per 90 ranks him second in the squad.
Oosterwolde’s lack of experience in a major league may be a slight concern, playing in the Eredivisie and Serie B before moving to Turkey, but there are signs he could be an exciting replacement for Guehi.
