Leicester now lining up shock hijack to sign Kieran Dowell ahead of Hull
Leicester City are now lining up a shock hijack to sign a new midfielder ahead of Championship rivals Hull City.
Foxes looking to make play-off push
The Foxes’ season so far has been far from ideal, currently sitting 12th in the table, but it is still possible Marti Cifuentes’ side could return to the Premier League at the first attempt, given that they are only four points behind sixth-place Watford.
Following Julian Carranza’s depature, with the striker returning to parent club Feyenoord, Cifuentes could do with bringing in another option at centre-forward, and the manager has confirmed they are actively working on new signings.
The 43-year-old said: “That Julian (Carranza) left, that the deal with Michail Antonio couldn’t work and with the injury of Aaron, that affects the numbers and the possibilities we have up there.
“It’s something we’re looking at. We’ll see if we can get the right player for what we want.”
Jordan James is Cifuentes’ side’s top scorer in the second tier this season, with the 21-year-old bagging eight goals, but another attack-minded midfielder has now been identified as a shock target.
That is according to a report from SportsBoom, which states Leicester are now ready to hijack Hull City’s move for Rangers midfielder Kieran Dowellwho is expected to leave the Scottish club following a falling out.
Dowell is on the transfer list, which suggests agreeing a deal shouldn’t be too much of a problem, with the Foxes looking to get ahead of their Championship rivals in the race for his signature.
Having fallen down the pecking order at Ibrox, the former Birmingham City man, who has an incredible three promotions to his name, is now keen on a return to England, and his Championship experience makes him an exciting target.
“Beast” Dowell could be exciting signing for Leicester
Former Rangers boss Russell Martin was quick to praise the attacking midfielder’s work ethic after arriving at Ibrox, saying: “And by the way he tries really, really every day, trains like an absolute beast, which I don’t think some people have come to this club and been bought for a lot of money, and I don’t think they have done that.”
The 28-year-old has also proven himself in the second tier, scoring five goals in 24 appearances to help Norwich seal a return to the Premier League in the 2020-21 campaign.

Having won promotion with Birmingham City and Sheffield United too, Dowell could be exactly what Leicester are looking for, and it is exciting news they are planning to hijack Hull.
That said, bringing in a new centre-forward should be of paramount importance, considering Jordan Ayew may now be in the latter stages of his career at 34-years-old, and the Ghanaian’s contract is set to expire in the summer.
