Philippe Senderos blown away by what he’s seen from Arsenal’s academy
It’s been 22 long years, but Arsenal are finally the champions of England once again.
It may not have a gold tint this time around, but Mikel Arteta won’t care. He’s dragged the Gunners out of an era to forget. Out of a time period which centred around fan TV rants and nightmare thrashings at the hands of fellow top six sides.
The Spaniard has done what many once believed was impossible and may yet have one last crowning moment awaiting against Paris Saint-Germain.
As for the players, who have been forced to endure endless anxiety around getting over the line, they’ve been able to aim plenty of digs back at their critics.
A jubilant Bukayo Saka hit back at Arsenal’s doubters by saying “they’re not laughing at us anymore” as the club celebrated their first Premier League title in 22 years.
Players and staff gathered at their London Colney training base to watch rivals Manchester City draw 1-1 with Bournemouth, guaranteeing the Gunners their first top flight title since 2004 and their 14th in all, with a game to spare.
City’s draw at the Vitality Stadium on Tuesday sparked wild scenes at Arsenal training ground, and also outside the Emirates Stadium, where thousands of supporters gathered to toast the club’s success by lighting fireworks and flares.
A lot of praise will go towards Andrea Berta, Arteta and Arsenal’s recruitment team, but an underrated aspect of the club’s rebuild has been the Hale End academy. It’s played a pivotal part and is still producing some incredibly talented names.
Senderos praises “amazing” Arsenal academy
Philippe Senderos, speaking to Football FanCast in association with Spreadex Sportshas heaped praise on the newly-crowned champions.
The former defender, who was part of the Invincibles, was particularly keen to hand some praise to the Hale End academy.
“I like the fact that this Arsenal squad also has many players from the academy.
“It shows a lot that Arsenal has done in the academy to develop players, not only develop players for the Premier League, but develop players to play for Arsenal. This is an amazing achievement and we can see this work is continuing with very young players integrating in the squad.”
Hale End provided the foundations for Arsenal’s initial turnaround, producing the likes of Saka and Emile Smith Rowe, and has since brought through the likes of Myles Lewis-Skelly and Ethan Nwaneri, the former of which played a crucial role down the stretch this season.
With Max Dowman only getting better, the academy will continue to play a big part in the coming years, introducing more of North London’s finest into a now title-winning squad.
