Rangers now fearing Celtic hijack as Old Firm clubs race to sign Cameron Ashia
Rangers are now fearing the worst with Celtic now joining them in the race to sign an EFL midfielder, who could arrive as a free agent in the summer.
Rangers fearing Celtic transfer hijack
With Hearts shocking the rest of Scotland by taking pole position in the race to win the Scottish Premiership so far this season, it’s fair to say that both Celtic and Rangers have work to do this summer.
Their respective transfer ambitions were already on show in the January transfer window. Martin O’Neill’s side saved their best arrival for last, welcoming experienced former Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain on a free deal after the deadline.
Rangers, meanwhile, benefitted from the financial backing of the 49ers once again. The Gers welcomed Ryan Naderi, Tuur Rommens, Tochi Chukwuani and Andreas Skov Olsen in a busy January window.
It could be a sign of things to come. Ahead of the summer window, Football FanCast recently exclusively revealed that Rangers are already in talks to sign Mikey Moore from Tottenham Hotspur on a permanent deal.
The young winger has grown into his position ever since the arrival of Danny Rohl and could now get the chance to become a permanent feature at Ibrox.
2 years after Rangers exit, £58m star is now better than Moore & Skov Olsen
One former Rangers star has now blossomed after leaving Ibrox.
Rohl would certainly welcome him with open arms. The Rangers boss, full of praise for his winger, told reporters back in November: “Mikey again showed his quality on the ball. He is always available, a lot of good movements. I think this is great.”
As for Celtic, they’ve arguably got an even greater task on their hands this summer after a season of much unrest. Their first priority will be finding a long-term managerial option in place of O’Neill, before potentially competing with Rangers to sign a midfield star who is a man in-demand.
According to Football Insider, Rangers are now fearful that Celtic could hijack their move for Cameron Ashia this summer, with the two Old Firm clubs battling for his signature.
In-demand Ashia would be summer bargain
It’s no surprise that the Scottish giants are interested in Ashia. The Huddersfield Town midfielder, who’s also been the subject of interest from the Championship, is on course to become a free agent this summer.
It’s then that Celtic could get one over on Rangers to land a bargain deal and the attacking spark that they’ve desperately lacked all season, in the process.

It’s a big decision for the Huddersfield attacking midfielder. In one move, he could deal one of the Old Firm clubs an instant summer blow or both if he chooses the Championship.
