Whilst a huge amount of focus has been placed on Newcastle United’s departures and missed targets, the hierarchy have quietly been completing shrewd business in the transfer market.

Whilst Murphy has no doubt handed the fans moments to cherish at St James’, his career has massively stagnated in recent times – which should lead to a potential sale this summer.

How Newcastle could replace Murphy this summer

Should Murphy be sold by Howe and Co this window, Newcastle would undoubtedly need to delve back into the market to try and land added attacking reinforcements.

Countless options have been discussed in recent months, with Toure a player who’s already completed his move to Tyneside ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.

However, it appears the Magpies are continuing with their youthful recruitment drive, as Real Betis winger Abde Ezzalzouli has once again emerged on their radar.

It’s been reported by Spanish outlet AS that Howe’s side are the leading candidates to secure his signature this summer, with AS Roma another side monitoring his progress.

They also state that the Moroccan international has a €60m (£51m) release clause within his contract and would be open to the idea of a move to the Premier League this window.

It remains to be seen how much the Magpies will be willing to spend this window after their recent £112m spending spree, but it’s safe to say they would be landing a top talent with a move for Ezzalzouli.

His stats from his recent campaign in LaLiga highlight his tremendous quality within attacking areas, which could spell the end for Murphy on Tyneside.

The 24-year-old registered a staggering tally of 18 combined goals and assists in Spain’s top-flight last term, subsequently ending the year with 13 more contributions than the current Magpies winger.

Such a tally was the third-highest of any player in LaLiga who doesn’t play for Real Madrid or Barcelona – further highlighting his impressive ability within the final third.

Ezzalzouli’s talent with the ball also stretched into chance creation, which saw the youngster average 0.5 big chances created per 90 – a tally over two times higher than Murphy.

The aforementioned figure also placed him in the top 15% of all attackers within Europe’s top-five leagues – which could see Howe’s men land a needed creative spark within forward areas.

The Betis star ranked highly for successful dribbles and fouls won per 90, subsequently demonstrating his constant threat to the opposition when he’s in full flow.

He completed 1.6 successful dribbles and won 2.8 fouls per 90, which, like his chances created, also placed him above 90% of other attackers in Spain’s top division.

Spending £51m on the Moroccan star would be yet another huge deal for Newcastle this summer, but it would see them land a player who’s on a huge upward trajectory.

The need for a new attacking star off the right-hand side has been evident for many months, with Murphy unfortunately not the player he once was for the Magpies.

A move for Ezzalzouli would undoubtedly spell the end of the Englishman’s time on Tyneside – with Howe needing to be ruthless to allow the Magpies to rise up the Premier League again next term.
